The Calgary Wind Symphony had a successful first-go at fundraising through InvestYYC. Our campaign raised over $3,000 to support our commissioning practices and operational costs.
The ensemble is a strong supporter of commissioning and performing new wind ensemble repertoire before Calgarian audiences. In the spirit of supporting Albertans, we commissioned local composer, Christiaan Venter, to compose a double concerto for two of Calgary’s top instrumentalists: Jeremy Brown, saxophone, and Morag Northey, cello. The piece was premiered at our December 2014 concert.
Special thanks to all those who contributed. You’re not only helping to keep the practice of commissioning alive but also supporting the growth of Canadian music repertoire.
In 2011 the Calgary Wind Symphony participated in Mid Europe, an important festival for wind bands held in Schladming, Austria. Following the success of the event, the President of the festival, Professor Johann Mösenbichler sent us a flattering letter that we would like to share.
